Is your Base separating?

Is your Base separating?

Why Your Makeup Separates — And How to Make Your Base Last All Day

There is nothing more frustrating than creating a flawless base in the morning, only to notice your foundation separating, settling into fine lines or disappearing a few hours later.

The good news? It may not be your foundation. Long-lasting makeup begins before foundation is even applied. From skin preparation to the amount of product you use, a few simple changes can completely transform how your makeup looks and wears throughout the day.

Here is how to create a smooth, fresh base that stays looking beautiful for longer.

1. Start With Hydrated Skin

When skin is dry or dehydrated, foundation can cling to certain areas and appear uneven. On the other hand, applying too many rich skincare products immediately before makeup can cause your base to slip or separate.

The goal is balanced, hydrated skin.

Apply your usual skincare at night. To allow it time to absorb. Prior to your makeup apply Our First Base Hydrating Primer to create a smooth and create an even canvas for foundation.

Powered by 2% hyaluronic acid, Kakadu plum, pomegranate and white sapphire, First Base leaves the skin with a soft, pearlescent glow. It can also be worn alone when you want a fresh, radiant complexion without a full face of makeup.

Runway Tip: After applying First Base, wait approximately 30 seconds before moving on to foundation. This gives the primer time to settle into the skin.

2. Apply Foundation in Thin Layers

More foundation does not necessarily mean better coverage.

Applying one heavy layer can make makeup feel thick and increase the chance of creasing or separating. Instead, begin with a small amount and build coverage only where you need it.

Apply foundation from the centre of the face and blend outwards. This keeps the most coverage around areas that commonly experience redness or unevenness while maintaining a natural finish around the edges of the face.

Face Base Luminous Foundation is designed to create an even, luminous complexion without masking the skin. Begin with a light layer, then add a little more over any areas where you would like additional coverage.

3. Stipple — Don’t Drag

The way you apply your makeup matters just as much as the products you choose.

Dragging a brush repeatedly across the skin can disturb the primer underneath and create streaks. Use gentle pressing, stippling or buffing motions to blend foundation seamlessly into the skin.

A small amount of product combined with the right technique will usually create a smoother result than applying extra foundation.

4. Set Strategically

Powder does not need to be applied heavily across the entire face.

Focus on the areas where makeup tends to move first, such as around the nose, across the forehead, under the eyes and through the centre of the face. Keeping powder lighter over the cheekbones allows the skin’s natural radiance to remain visible.

Base Blur Mineral Loose Powder is an ultra-fine, triple-milled mineral powder designed to neutralise the appearance of redness, blur pigmentation and minimise the look of pores.

Gently press it into the skin with a large powder brush instead of sweeping it back and forth. Base Blur can be worn over Face Base to set your makeup or applied alone for weightless, natural-looking coverage.

5. Match Your Base to Your Day

Your everyday makeup does not need to look the same as your event makeup.

For a fresh, minimal look, wear First Base alone and lightly press Base Blur through the areas where you would like extra coverage. For work, weekends or everyday wear, layer Face Base over First Base and set only the centre of the face. For longer days or special occasions, build Face Base gradually and press Base Blur over the areas most likely to become shiny.

The secret is not using more makeup. It is applying the right products in light, considered layers.

The Runway Base Routine

For a smooth, luminous finish that lasts:

  1. Apply a small amount of First Base to clean, dry skin.
  2. Allow it to absorb for approximately 30 seconds.
  3. Apply Face Base in a light layer, blending from the centre of the face outwards.
  4. Build coverage only where needed.
  5. Gently press Base Blur over areas prone to shine or movement.

Beautiful makeup should still look like skin. With the right preparation, light layers and strategic setting, your base can stay smooth, fresh and comfortable throughout the day.

Own the runway, every day
