In Melbourne especially, Spring is synonymous with our Spring Racing Carnival which not only involves all eyes on the horses, but, let’s face it- all eyes on you! The frocks & the faces are the real hype of the carnival. Everybody loves to put their best foot forward for this iconic event so we’re here to help you with the ins & outs of how to ace your face before the event is in full swing.

One thing to keep in mind that during this event, your makeup will be displayed in broad daylight, so you don’t want to be going OTT with a harsh smokey eye or sporting an overly contoured mug.  This spring, tone it down with a fresher, dewier look. Glowing skin is all the rage and cakey makey won’t be in our vocabulary at all. Keep your eyes looking open and fresh with our Power Lash mascara (which is now officially back on our shelves after being requested for months!!) as well as lash enhancements with a large variety to choose from. A popping peach is also every MUA’s go-to this season, and we’ve got a couple of little products that will have you set for whatever this season throws at you!

 

P R I M E R

Prep your skin with Runway Room’s mattifying primer. The key to spring racing makeup is its ability to stand the test of the very long time out in the Aussie sun. This product will have your back this season, because not only does it prolong your makeup, it also controls shine - just what we want as the days become warmer! We are all yes to dewiness, but that unwanted oiliness? Not on our watch!

F A C E B A S E

The key to glowing skin is a great base, and our face base foundation is the perfect, lightweight foundation for the job. It has buildable coverage but won’t appear cakey whatsoever, and is gentle on all skin types. 1 to 2 pumps will do the job- blend evenly all over with a foundation buffing brush, being careful not to neglect your hairline & jawline, particularly if you plan on having your hair back for the occasion!

P O W D E R S

Blush is back, and we’ve got a little crush on our Peach Punch Blush! It is our little secret to a youthful, healthy complexion. It is one of our best-sellers and for good reason - it has that natural peachy tone to make you look naturally flushed, but also contains a slight luminocity throughout the pigment to add a touch of highlight. For this reason, you can wear this blush alone or along with some illuminator to enhance your glow even more; and let’s be honest, we can’t say no to more glow!

Apply Peach Punch blush to the apples of the cheeks, blending upwards to create a nice lift. Add illuminator powder to the high points of the face such as the cheekbones, the brow bone, bridge of the nose, cupids bow and a little on the forehead. The pearly finish of the illuminator will ensure that you don’t look shimmery - we find that overly shimmery highlights can bring out the texture in your skin which doesn’t look overly flattering, particularly when out in the sunshine all day.

B R O W S

For a fresher look this season, we are not going to be heavy-handed with our brow routine. Keeping it lighter and au-natural is super trendy and our brow dust is perfect for the task. Dusts overall appear a lot more natural in comparison to pencils, which can leave the brows with a bit of a harsher finish. Apply the bulk of the product towards the outer tail of the brow as we don’t want any dark pigments towards the centre - it has a tendency to really close the face in. Fill in any gappy areas and lightly definer the outer edges of the brow with an angled brush. Brush out any excess product in an upwards and outwards motion with a brow spooly. (We got you - all of these items can be found in our Brow Maintenance Kit along with a pair of tweezers).

E Y E S H A D O W

To add to the peachy pop that we’re already sporting on the skin from our Peach Punch Blush, we recommend our spring favourite, Summer Dust eyeshadow. It is a gorgeous, bright peach shadow that looks youthful, fresh and suits a variety of skin tones and eye colours. No need for complex, heavy smokey eyes this season- this colour wash all over the lid will turn heads and make your eyes pop just as much. We actually recommend applying our illuminator powder all over the mobile lid before going in with Summer Dust, it helps your eyes to appear overall brighter and eyeshadow layering is a great technique to achieve a nicely blended finish. Blend Summer Dust all over the top of that layer of illuminator, blending towards the crease and slightly above.

Our power lash is finally back on our shelves after being sold out for a hot minute, and makeup lovers are frantically snatching them up! In our tutorial below, you can see that we were so amazed with Mia’s lashes with just a few coats of power lash that we didn’t proceed with faux lashes (and you know how much we love our faux lashes at Runway Room).

Power lash ensures no hairs are left untouched, whilst achieving that desirable length and volume that is a must-have in any mascara.
